Legendary pop singer (The Voice) Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48 years old. Houston sold more than 170 million albums, singles and videos over her career. Although she released relatively few albums, she currently ranks as the fourth best-selling female artist in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America.
She had the perfect voice, and the perfect image: a gorgeous singer who had sex appeal but was never overtly sexual, who maintained perfect poise.
She influenced a generation of younger singers, from Christina Aguilera to Mariah Carey, who sounded very reminiscent to Houston when she first came out.
Houston was set to appear in this year’s “Sparkle,” a remake of the 1976 hit, which was loosely based on the story of The Supremes. It was her first movie role since 1996’s “The Preacher’s Wife.”
Whitney was to attend Clive Davis annual Grammy party at the Beverly Hills Hilton in Los Angeles this evening.
R.I.P. Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012).
