Many artists are now following the marketing trend of being the first to give their fans a taste of their music before it’s leaked by new technological advances. India.Arie does no different and unveils her new song, “Brother’s Keeper,” off her forthcoming album, “SongVersation.”
The empowering song, which premiered on Billboard’s The Juice, highlights the role of being a companion and a confidant. This song doesn’t stray far from what we know Arie for, her songs of comfort and encouragement.
“It’s been my joy to sing songs with empowerment themes all my career,” says the soulful singer. “’SongVersation’ is the same, maybe even more so. This song, ‘Brother’s Keeper,’ is about us as women supporting the men in our lives.”
The compelling song in itself sells a feeling of empowerment just by its strong drum and piano emphasis, not to mention the honest lyrics as well. Arie digs deep within herself and questions if she can be who she needs to be for the person/people in her life. She reflects through her lyrics saying, “Will I walk what I talk, will I open my heart, can he trust me when I give him my word?” It is in that moment of honesty and clarity, that Arie discovers that she can and she will be her ‘Brother’s Keeper.”
Arie’s upcoming album, “SongVersation,” is set to release on June 25.
