Dawn Richard doesn’t miss a beat after the first segment of her three-part album series, “Goldenheart,” by prepping fans with two new singles off of the following album, “Blackheart.”
After launching an online contest that allowed fans to choose between “Judith” and “Valkyrie,” the singer decided to released both at midnight (Aug. 19).
Although historically based on Old Norse mythological female figures that chose the fate of soldiers in battle, “Valkyrie” features bars from Deonte to maintain its hip hop feel behind the medieval theme and inspiration.
The Danity Kane starlet expresses confidence as an Old Norse valkyrie would when she sings, “You gone remember me,” on the Noisecastle III production.
Richard’s second release, “Judith,” is a dark and intense two-minute record that was also inspired by a historical piece.
As she sings of feeling insignificant beyond her glory, the song takes you on the dim journey of the Gustav Klimt painting that serves as the song’s namesake.
“It’s the story of a painting that is priceless and quite iconic being forgotten after being hung in a home too long,” she said about the Cronos-produced song.
