Billboard’s most successful R&B male and female artist of the last 25 years, Mary J.Blige and R. Kelly haven’t been on the same track since 1998’s “Lean on Me.” However, R&B fans might not have to wait any longer as a possible duet is in the works between the two R&B legends.
In Rated R&B’s recent interview with producer Jerry Wonda, he revealed the two have collaborated for Blige’s next studio album.
“It’s such a great record…it’s crazy. You have the ‘Queen of R&B’ and the ‘King of R&B’ together on one record – it’s very special.”
While the title hasn’t been revealed, according to Wonda, the song was penned by both singer and songwriter Ne-Yo and Mary J. Blige.
The Fugees producer insists the record is one for the history books. “It is a record I can’t wait for it to hit the wave of radio. People are going to love it,” said Wonda.
Although rumor has it, the two have been trying to get in the studio together for some years now but due to conflicting schedules it hasn’t happened. Nonetheless, if the record is anything like their 1997 hit “It’s On” which is our Throwback Thursday, it’s sure to be a classic.
Be sure to catch up more with Jerry Wonda as our full interview will be posted soon.
