Beyoncé keeps folks on social media talking as her latest self-titled visual album makes history. Released without notice solely on iTunes at midnight on Dec. 13, “Beyoncé” is officially the fastest-selling album ever in the iTunes store.
According to her record label, Columbia Records, “Beyoncé” sold 828,773 only three days after its release (as of the close of business on Sunday, Dec. 15). The bulk of sales (617,000 units) came from the United States.
“Beyoncé” will be the singer’s highest first-week sales debut as a solo artist.
Most retailers will receive physical copies of “Beyoncé” by Dec. 20. If you shop at Target, don’t worry about visiting the store to get a copy.
Target’s spokesperson Erica Julkowski confirmed that the store will not sell physical copies of Bey’s new album.
“At Target, we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections,” said Julkowski.
“While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyoncé in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyoncé’s new self-titled album ‘Beyoncé.'”
We’re sure Yoncé is unbothered.
