The-Dream reportedly announced his departure from Def Jam Recordings on January 8 via his Instagram account.
Dream, born Terius Nash, posted the Def Jam Recordings logo with the following caption, “I will miss this logo. It all started here! Love Everything that I achieved there, EXODUS THE-DREAM#exodusthedream.” From there, he posted a series of photos with captions explaining his musical journey.
He posted a throwback photo of him and Rihanna stating, “Started with Umbrella…… Since then it’s been reigning forever.” Next, he posted a photo of his first album, “Love Hate.” He said, “Creativity+No Politics.”
Then he posted a photo of his “Love vs. Money” album with the caption, “Creatively engaged and tried to beat Love Hate into submission.”
The-Dream went on to post photos of all his albums including his “1977” EP. “Creativity! My own Time my own Way. Just me and spat my Engineer at the Time. No label at All! Perfect,” he said.
The singer-songwriter-producer signed with Def Jam back in 2007, where he released his debut album “Love Hate.” Under Def Jam, he created his Radio Killa imprint in 2007, which is now home to R&B newcomer August Alsina. Since stepping on the music scene, Nash has won four GRAMMY awards, a BET Award and a BET Hip-Hop Award.
Nash’s last solo effort “IV Play,” was released in 2013 and peaked at number two on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart. The album included features from Beyoncé, 2 Chainz, Kelly Rowland, Gary Clark Jr., Clipse and Jay Z.
Many celebrities have taken to social media to tweet and Instagram updates on their careers and personal lives. This has become a new trend as it really gives artists the control over how and when new information about them is released to the public.
There is no word on why The-Dream left Def Jam nor what he plans to do with Radio Killa Records. However, we wish him the best of luck with his future endeavors.
