Neo-Soul sweetheart Jill Scott has a lot of projects lined up this year, with plans to appear on television, in theaters and on the radio waves.
First, the Philadelphia native will appear as a guest mentor on NBC’s ‘The Voice.” Scott tells Billboard.com, “It’s a show I enjoy because singers are really given an opportunity to sing. It’s not all about the look or the visual. It’s really about the tone of the voice, the passion that lives inside of it.”
Next up, Scott will return to the big screen this summer (August. 1) as James Brown’s second wife, Deirdre “Deedee” Jenkins, in the biopic “Get On Up.” The “A Long Walk” artist revealed how seriously she takes this role, “I looked at the film as a mosaic with the most important part being [Deedee’s] still unbridled love and adoration for this huge personality and talent.”
Finally, Scott refers to her next album as “a meeting of Philly and Nashville soul.” The untitled project will be released on Atlantic Records, and its release date is unknown.
Catch Jilly from Philly as a mentor on “The Voice” starting February 24.
