This month’s Throwback Thursday theme is soul hits from the ’60s. One group that had a hit single during that time was The Contours, who were signed to Motown Records. The group was best known for their dance-themed song “Do You Love Me,” which was released in 1962.
The tune, written and produced by Motown Records CEO Berry Gordy, Jr., was The Contours’ most successful single of their career. The song peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Pop Singles Chart (now known as Billboard Hot 100) and No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B Singles Chart.
Nearly 25 years later, “Do You Love Me” returned to the Billboard charts. In 1987, the song was featured in the movie “Dirty Dancing” and its accompanying soundtrack. In 1988, “Do You Love Me” peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. It remained on the chart for eight weeks.
