With Ashanti’s “Braveheart” album now in stores, the R&B veteran is making promotional rounds to spread the word. The “Only You” singer stopped by Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club on Monday morning for her most candid interview yet.
In the interview, the former Murder Inc songstress cleared up several rumors and spoke openly on many topics including: Murder Inc, her new album and growing in the music industry.
On loyalty to Murder Inc: “I rode out. For [Irv Gotti] to say I wasn’t loyal, wasn’t true at all. After 2008, we didn’t speak for 6-7 years. We had a conversation at Hip Hop Honors and we agreed to disagree on a lot and that was it. I still consider them family, but we’re on different paths right now.”
On her breakup with Nelly: “There were a lot of things said and done publicly that should not have been. I feel like there was a foundation that was set and those things shouldn’t have happened… so it got bad. We both made mistakes.”
On her album “Braveheart”: “This was my opportunity to be brave enough to be honest. I’m very vulnerable and sincere on this album. I haven’t put out music since 2008 so I have to give.”
On criticism in the industry: “If you’re strong enough to be number one, you gotta be strong enough to endure the bs.”
“Braveheart” is available now on iTunes. Read a full review of the album here.
