The electrified Janelle Monáe lit up the “American Idol” stage on last night’s results show, performing her funky “Rio 2” soundtrack hit “What Is Love.”
Monáe is known to do far above the norm and step outside of the usual brown cardboard box. The soul singer did just that by creating a dazzling one-of-a-kind presentation on “Idol’s” center stage before the revelation of the top nine contestants.

The three-minute breathtaking performance was filled with tap dances and costumed-clothed dancers for a carnival-like experience as she brought “Rio 2” to life.
The animated theatrical show had the crowd attentively standing tall and actively pump-fisting high in the air every 180 seconds of the live performance.
With her Fatima Robinson choreographed set, the young, lively 28-year-old Monáe had the world feeling like they went on a fantasy ride to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
