Elle Varner is set to release her anticipated sophomore album, “4 Letter Word” this summer.
While many four letters come to mind, Elle explains that she is keeping the title of her sophomore album open-ended. “The album is a beautifully gut-wrenching body of songs that I went to a very vulnerable place to create,” she said. “The title is open to interpretation, hence the symbols used in the campaign – ‘>$a!’ It’s whatever you feel when you experience the album. Does ‘>$a!’ stand for love? Pain? Life? That’s for the listener to decide. “4 Letter Word” has the kind of range that can’t be embodied by a single word or phrase.”
Elle plans to release previews of four tracks in the coming weeks, each one describing a different four letter word. All four tracks will serve as appetizers before she releases the first official single.
The “Refill” singer has classified the sound of “4 Letter Word” as “Trap Jazz” and the album features production from the likes of Pop & Oak, Eric Hudson, DJ Dahi, Da Internz, and Hit-Boy. In December, Varner released her buzz single “Rover” with Wale.
Listen to Elle sing about the darker side of l-o-v-e in “Cold Case.”
