L.A. singer Mila J stopped by Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club Morning Show for an in-depth interview to discuss her early career and its current state.
The name Mila J hasn’t been a familiar name for some time. Even DJ envy didn’t know the pronunciation of her name and Charlamagne Tha God admitted that he wasn’t familiar with her work. The singer, who started off as a dancer in her childhood, has had previous calls to fame, but for only an instant. With two unsuccessful groups, Gyrl and Dame Four, and a previous full-length recorded album that never was released (“Split Personality”), it’s about time for the talented bombshell to break through as an artist.
“I kind of ended up being a solo artist, like I never saw myself growing up like ‘I’m using this as a my platform to go solo’ or nothing like that, it just kind of happened,” says the 31-year-old singer.
Mila J admits that she had to take a break to regroup herself so that she didn’t get discouraged at her failed attempts to success. She admits that she was even working two full-time jobs and even got her license for an esthetician. Now back to the music, the singer is prepping for a new album on Motown “M.I.L.A.” (Made In L.A.) with its lead single “Smoke, Drink, Break-Up.”
“If you have to be in a relationship and it’s that toxic to where you feel you have to get high to deal with that person that’s not healthy,” says the singer of her single which comes from her own true personal experience.
In the interview the singer reveals that her forthcoming album is 90 percent done and includes features from Ty Dollar $ign, Problem and B.O.B.
