Mya gets her body tight and right for the August 2014 issue of Women’s Running magazine.
Exemplifying a jogging motion on the publication’s cover, the 34-year-old singer dishes on her healthier lifestyle since becoming a runner. She reveals why she chose to tackle the New York City Marathon as her 2011 New Year’s resolution. “It was a test of my own strength and will,” says Mya. “I wanted to prove to myself that I was still physically healthy and that I could do something to challenge myself.” Since completing the marathon, Mya says, “I am so happy and proud to call myself a runner.”
She reflects on her time as a vegetarian. “There’s a stigma attached to vegetarian food,” she says. “My friends would say, ‘Oh, gosh, that’s no fun’. . . But I discovered so many great dishes that I eat habitually now, because they’re delicious.”
Mya even tells why she enjoys exercising outdoors versus indoors. “Getting outside and getting in touch with nature is such a spiritual cleanse for me,” she says.
