Powerhouse singer Jazmine Sullivan surprises a room full of men with a solo premiere of her new song “Stupid Girls” warning women to guard their hearts.
During the duration of the Essence Music Festival, Sullivan joined those of NPR Music Field Recordings for an on-the-spot performance just off Canal Street in New Orleans, LA. Right off the street is Clear-Vue Barbershop who were in for a pleasant surprise. As the men were doing their usual, engaging in chatter and a debate about sports, in walks in Sullivan turning heads stamped with gazing, confused looks.
The 27-year-old greeted the men with a simple “Hey” and took a seat where there was an empty wooden chair. As soon as the Philly native belted out her first note all eyes were on her and the chatter ceased. Even though the song was geared against men, some couldn’t help but to nod to the music in agreement. Sullivan cautions women not to be a guy’s toy and tells women that they have a choice to either take over the world or chase men and be a ‘stupid girl.’
“Boys have toys too, you know they do, they call us stupid girls, and when you love them like I do you’ll be a fool, you’ll be a stupid girl,” sings Sullivan bluntly.
