Los Angeles-bred singer Jhene Aiko has partnered with PETA’s youth division, peta2, in their new campaign to encourage pet adoption.
The cool, calm and collected Aiko is shown cuddling next to a rescued kitten sporting her own kitten ears in her new ad for peta2. Aiko and kitten Daisy candidly pose for the welcoming ad with the words “Adoption is love. Save a homeless dog or cat. Adopt. Don’t Shop.” Aiko notes the importance and essential difference between adopting an animal versus actually purchasing one, from her perspective.
“It’s important to adopt rather than buy because they’re so many animals in the shelter that need homes,” says the 26-year-old animal lover.
Aiko is not one of those spokespersons who doesn’t actually believe in what they are endorsing. The singer doesn’t just talk the talk, she walks the walk as well. “The Pressure” singer purchased a cat at a local shelter for her five-year-old daughter Namiko who wanted a kitten of her own. Aiko says she had her own love for cats when she was young as well. “Ever since I was younger, I had this connection with cats. I would bring home stray kittens and ever since then, I always had to have cats in my life,” says the songbird.
The L.A. native even compares herself to a cat sometimes with her smooth , but feisty nature. “I think cats are super smooth with everything they do. I move in silence, but when I feel threatened, I get real feisty like a cat.” Aiko is one amongst many celebrities who have taken on the initiative to promote animals. The growing list includes Angela Simmons, Kid Ink, Ke$ha, Jay Sean, Rocsi Diaz and now the talent Jhene Aiko.
