Over the weekend, Mary J. Blige lent her voice to honor U.S. troops, veterans and their families for the PBS television special “A Salute to the Troops: In Performance at the White House.”
Dressed in a tailored suit, the singer-songwriter rendered her new song “When You’re Gone” from her forthcoming album The London Sessions. She also sung a polished rendition of U2’s “One” that had President Barack Obama nodding his head in excitement.
Other performers at the “Salute to the Troops” concert included Common, Willie Nelson, Romeo Santos and Daughtry.
In other news, Blige’s 13th studio album The London Sessions will be available everywhere on December 2. The highly awaited project includes the singles “Whole Damn Year,” Right Now” and “Therapy,” which impacts pop radio formats tomorrow.
