Elle Varner kicked off her six-city tour at The Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C. on Saturday night with special guest Adrian Marcel.
The historic venue was packed with a diverse crowd of fans eager to hear Varner sang live. The moment Varner hit the stage, the building roared. Donning white pants and a multicolored blazer, Varner started her set with “Cold Case,” one of the four tracks she released as part of her “4 Letter Word” series. Varner performed a lot of fresh material including “Little Do You Know,” “F*ck It All” and “Don’t Wanna Dance.” The 25-year-old also performed an acoustic version of her new song called “Nothing,” which will appear on her forthcoming album.
One highlight of the night was when Varner performed her rendition of Marvin Gaye’s classic “What’s Going On.” She dedicated the performance to Mike Brown and everyone experiencing injustice around the world. She ended the song with the “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” stance.
Varner also treated fans to music from her debut album (Perfectly Imperfect) including “Only Wanna Give It To You” and her Grammy nominated single, fan-favorite single “Refill.”
