Over the last three years, Jill Scott has been keeping herself busy as an actor in films such as Steel Magnolias, Get On Up and most recent, With This Ring. However, she is ready to return to the music scene and release her fifth studio album.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Scott shared details on her forthcoming project, which is tentatively set to arrive this spring/summer. Still, the Philly native doesn’t want to rush the album release. “I haven’t emptied everything out,” she said. “This is my baby, you know, and it takes me some to relinquish the reins. I might come up with another song or two. I don’t know.”
Scott chose to embrace the storytelling roots of country music for her new album with the help of Aaron Pearce and longtime creative partner Andre Harris. “The album is pretty eclectic, but again it’s me storytelling from the point of view of a grown-up woman.”
Earlier this month, producer Jproof spoke with Rated R&B about working with Scott in Nashville, Tennessee for her follow-up to 2011’s The Light of the Sun. “I’m excited for the world to hear that project,” said Jproof. “The records that we [Pop, Flip, and Tru] came up with were so fresh. I think people will be pleasantly surprised with her next album.”
