Mary J. Blige is putting her acting chops to work. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul will guest star on the season finale of ABC’s black-ish.
According to Shadow and Act, the episode, titled Pops’ Pops’ Pops, finds Jack and Diane (Miles Brown, Marsai Martin) looking for clues about their roots for their class assignment, a history of the Johnson family. But they can’t find anything out about the family’s past. Pops (Laurence Fishburne) comes to the rescue with a colorful story of how “Pops’ Pops’ Pops,” great-great grandfather, Drexler Johnson, bet the future of the Johnson family against a ruthless gangster, Elroy Savoy, during the 1920’s Harlem Renaissance.
The London Sessions singer will star as Mirabelle Calais, the Savoy club headliner. Blige’s long-time collaborator and friend, Sean “Diddy” Combs will play Savoy, the gangster and club owner.
The black-ish season finale will air Wednesday, May 20, at 9:30 p.m. EST on ABC.
