Samm Henshaw is on his way to international stardom. The British singer has been getting a lot of buzz in the United Kingdom.
“It’s been weird,” he says. “We haven’t really put out any music but there’s been such a great response — it’s crazy. I feel blessed.”
Influenced by singers like Israel Houghton Paolo Nutini and James Bay, Henshaw describes his voice as “a hybrid of soul and folk and other stuff.”
Although he is in the infant stage of his music career, Henshaw has already performed at major music festivals including Parklife, Barn on the Farm and Wireless Festival. He has also headlined his own show at The Courtyard Theatre in London. “It was really exciting, very scary but a lot of fun,” Henshaw recalls on his experience. “It was also really sweaty, and really hot.”
Henshaw is gearing up to make his formal introduction to the world with his debut EP, The Sound Experiment. The highly-awaited EP will include his debut single “Only Wanna Be With You” and Rated R&B favorite “Better.”
“My housemate was messing around with FruityLoops and made a track,” Henshaw says about creating “Better.” “I heard it and loved the vibe. I forgot about it, but one day he was blasting it at home, and I literally ran to the kitchen and wrote down what came to me. Then I worked on it with another one of my mates, and just went from there really.”
Speaking on the meaning behind the EP’s title, Henshaw says, “I didn’t know what I wanted to do as an artist, and people kept asking me what my sound was. I couldn’t really tell them, because I like a lot of different styles, and I was experimenting a lot at the time with different sounds… hence the title ‘The Sound Experiment.’”
Be on the lookout for Henshaw’s Sound Experiment, which releases on August 7.
