Monica teams with Missy Elliott and her daughter Laiyah for her uptempo song “Code Red,” which serves as the title track to her upcoming album due on Dec. 18. On the Polow Da Don produced tune, Monica sings about how music industry is a state of emergency due to artists lacking of originality and creativity.
Missy helps kick off the track with a fast-paced verse. “Y’all all sound the same, let me hear something new / We tired of that junk that you sing in the booth / You know we the truth, let me give you this proof / Call 9-1-1- better ring the alarm / When this come on, they be dropping them bombs / We tired of hearing them same five songs / Man, I be wantin’ to turn that issh off,” Missy raps.
Meanwhile, Monica shows tough love to her industry peers singing, “I’m trying to change up the world / I’m focused on my baby girl / And even though she only one, she know you ain’t talkin’ about nothing.”
“It’s like we scared to take a chance,” she continues.
Monica’s highly awaited album, Code Red, will release on Dec. 18. It will feature collaborations with Lil Wayne, Missy Elliott, Timbaland and Akon.
