Usher has been honored with the 2,588th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony was held on Wednesday afternoon in Los Angeles. In addition to his fans and family, Usher was also joined by his musical colleagues Stevie Wonder, Kelly Rowland, will.i.am and Miguel.
“I don’t just celebrate this moment by myself. I celebrate it with those people who invested in me, those people who loved me through my hard times,” Usher said in his acceptance speech.
He also dedicated his star to his fans. “It’s because of you that this shining star is here. Now it’s your responsibility to come down here every chance you get to shine my star,” he said. “That’s the smallest thing that I could ask of you right now especially given the fact that I’m going to be walked on.”
Usher is gearing up to release his eighth studio album, Hard II Love, on September 16. It will include previously released tracks “Crash,” “No Limit” featuring Young Thug and “Rivals” featuring Future.
Usher has been ranked by the Recording Industry Assn. of America as one of the best-selling artists in American music history, having sold over 65 million albums worldwide. He has won numerous awards including 8 Grammy Awards and was named the #1 Hot 100 artist of the 2000s decade.
Billboard named him the second most successful artist of the 2000s decade, with his career-propelling 2004 album Confessions being ranked as the top solo album of the 2000s decade. Usher has attained nine Hot 100 #1 hits (all as a lead artist) and 18 Hot 100 top-10 singles.
