Mariah Carey is officially back. After teasing fans with a snippet of her YG-assisted single “I Don’t,” Carey unleashes the full version. The breakup anthem was produced by Carey’s longtime collaborators Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox.
“Somewhere in another life / We stole a moment in time / Gave you everything that you needed / I was even down to repeat it / Said you would always be mine / Fed me nothing but lies I was so done, I admit it,” Carey sings in the first verse.
“I Don’t” samples Donell Jones’ 1999 hit “Where I Wanna Be” and also contains an interpolation of the lyrics. “Cause when you love someone / You just don’t treat them bad /You messed up all we had / Probably think I’m coming back / But I don’t, I don’t,” Carey sings on the chorus.’
Fans who are anticipating a new album from Carey will have to wait a little while. The singer revealed she’s only interested in releasing singles at the moment.
“I’m going to be doing singles, because it’s more fun for me to just write singles and not focus totally on doing one whole album,” Carey said during a Q&A on Facebook. “It seems like a lot more fun to just sit down, write a single, collaborate. Hopefully, at the end of that process, there will be an album and I can give it to you guys with some new songs as well as the songs that I’ve been working on.”
Next month, Carey will join music legend Lionel Richie on his All The Hits Tour. It will kick off on March 15 at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore.
