Goapele Shares New Single ‘Power’

Soul singer Goapele makes a return with her new single “Power,” produced by Cornelio Austin.

The empowering song is lifted from Goapele’s EP, Dreamseeker, which releases on May 19 on EMPIRE/SKYBLAZE.

On the track, Goapele sings, “As bright as the sun (Power) / Just be who you are (Free).”

In an Instagram post, Goapele revealed her daughter inspired “Power.” My daughter is my daily reminder of this,” she said, before offering words of encouragement, Don’t let anyone dim your light.”

On Dreamseeker, Goapele will return to the adventurousness that is reminiscent of her early material.

“I’m a woman, but I’m also a whole person who won’t be confined to any one box,” Goapele said in a press release. Nobody is just one thing. Within any race, within any genre, and within any neighborhood, there’s so much diversity. As artists and especially as women of color, we have to be proud of that. I’m coming from an honest place and expressing the different parts of myself that make me whole.”

Dreamseeker follows Goapele’s 2014 album, Strong As Glass.

Xavier Omar Pink Lightning EP

Rising R&B artist Xavier Omär is back with his brand new EP titled Pink Lightning via Never Sleep Music/EMPIRE. The five-track offering takes fans on a journey through Omär’s many emotions involving love and relationships.

The EP opens with the lead track “Runnin’ Round,” which is about drawing a line between you and your inconsistent love interest. He gets “Stuck” on the second track, where he sings about wanting to be happily together with his lover. On “Change on Me” featuring singer Leuca, Omär hopes his love interest doesn’t change the way she feels about him.

Omär strips away the beat on “The Title” to put an emphasis on just the lyrics. On the beautiful tune, he asks for his relationship to be official. “This record was originally acapella but I then made it into a pop song because I decided not to keep it,” Omär wrote on Genius. “I recorded it to the new beat and actually tried to get it to Sam Smith, but that connect never happened. The only reason this song is on the project is because I played it for some friends at Masego’s house in LA and they were like ‘when does THIS drop?” I had lost the files so I said, “It’s not, I lost the files.” My friend Courtney Bennet said in her beautiful British accent ‘just re-record it.'”

Omär will launch his supporting Pink Lightning Tour on November 28 in Chicago. The tour will hit major cities across North America including D.C., Boston, New York, Houston, Los Angeles and Seattle.

Pink Lightning follows Omär’s 2016 project, The Everlasting Wave, which featured his most popular song to date “Blind Man.” The track has accumulated over 16 million streams on Spotify.

Diamond White Flaunts and Flirts on New Single ‘Cleopatron’

Cleopatron Diamond White

Diamond White has given us another taste of the heat she’s cooking up with her new single “Cleopatron.”

With the title of the song being a mix of “Cleopatra” and “patron,” White explained the inspiration behind her interestingly titled new song in an Instagram post.

“When you’re dealing with guys you learn a lot about different types of people, buuuut there was always one constant theme in most of the guys 👦🏼 that liked me throughout that time,” she wrote. “The fascination and almost addiction (which is where the alcohol references come in) to my melanin. Especially in the guys that never had any experience with a black girl. It was an immediate fascination. Real tea ☕️,” she wrote. “Its a song about feminine energy and how powerful we are like an addiction. So much so that it creates an image of a goddess (that’s where cleopatra comes in).”

This is White’s second single of the year after the release of her surprise banger “Empty Cup” last month.
