Rising singer Jessie Reyez is keeping things moving with the release of her latest single “Cotton Candy.”
On the somber tune, Reyez expresses her mixed feelings when she’s left in limbo by a lover.
“Still waiting for your call / Aren’t you the one that’s supposed to pick me up when I fall / Nothing’s easy in this world / Baby, believe me I just hope you see it when you see me,” she sings.
In an Instagram post, Reyez detailed the inspiration behind the song’s title:
“Trying to brace myself for your call” new song is out. This one was made in my living room a year ago – the same heart break as “Figures”. The tears tasted the same. Me, a mic, a laptop, loss of appetite and rivers running down my face. Nothing sweet about it, so I figured it needed balance. That’s why this one is called “Cotton Candy” To anyone that’s been to my live show – this is the electric guitar song with black beauty.”
Jessie Reyez has had quite an interesting year, kicking off with her Kiddo EP, which came out in April. The five-song project garnered buzz from its heart-wrenching single “Figures,” which has nearly 25 million plays on Spotify. Reyez then landed a spot on the Nissan stage at the BET Awards in July. Reyes will be joining PartyNextDoor on “The Infinity Tour,” which begins in Dublin, Ireland in February.
