Emerging singer Ro James has been gone for a minute but he’s back with new music. The New York native pays homage to a hometown legend The Notorious B.I.G. (a.k.a. Biggie Smalls) on his latest track “Lost My Mind.”
Released on the 21st anniversary of the rapper’s untimely death (March 9), James uses Biggie’s vocals from his song titled “Niggas,” lifted from 1999’s Born Again album, to make a smooth ride along jam on finding a girl who can handle his fast-paced lifestyle.
“If you think that you can handle it (it’s alright) / My love is like gambling (it’s alright) / Girl you know how we be dealing (it’s alright) / Got you all in yo’ feelings (it’s alright) / Can’t have me all the time baby (it’s alright),” he sings on the Salaam Remi-produced cut.
James shared a message on Instagram before the track was uploaded to Soundcloud. “Paying Homage to the Icon and Legend “The Notorious BIG.” As we Celebrate his life today. Thankful for the inspiration. 90s Hip Hop & RnB plays a huge influence on my being. The Vibe the style the music mixed with some country and some Nasty and Rock and Roll and you Get ME .🌹🇵🇦 Decided to Drop a lil Gem,” wrote James.
“Lost My Mind” is undoubtedly a holdover track until James releases his official first single off his anticipated follow-up to 2016’s Eldorado. The album’s lead single “Permission” earned him a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance at the 2017 ceremony.
