Angie Stones Talks Longevity, 35 Years In Music Industry

Soul singer Angie Stone has been in the music industry for quite some time. Before she decided to become a singer, she was apart of a hip-hop group called The Sequence. The “I Wanna Thank Ya” singer was among many R&B/soul artists who attended the 2012 Soul Train Awards in Las Vegas. Soul Sessions caught up with Stone on the red carpet where she talked about her longevity in the industry.

You are definitely an unmovable stone in this industry. Tell me about the longevity.
Well thirty-four, almost thirty-five years, I started in 1979 with the first female hip-hop group called The Sequence. It
Producer] Bart [Phillips] and all the people that still believe in great music. They show me love and I’m just grateful.

Erykah Badu, Miguel and The Roots to Headline Smokin’ Grooves Festival

The performance lineup for the Smokin’ Grooves Festival has been announced. Erykah Badu, Miguel and The Roots are set to headline the event, which takes plance on June 16 at The Queen Mary in Long Beach.

Other artists on the bill include Jhene Aiko, NxWorries (Anderson Paak + Knxwledge), H.E.R., Majid Jordan, dvsn, Tiara Thomas, Lion Babe, Arin Ray, Ravyn Lenae, Omarion and THEY, to name a few.

While Badu doesn’t have a new project out, fans will be expecting to hear her classic records. Miguel and Jhené Aiko will promote their latest albums. The latter artist released her  sophomore album Trip last September, while Miguel delivered his third album, War & Leisure, in December.

JoJo Announces ‘Leaks, Mixtapes and Covers’ Tour Dates

JoJo will soon embark on a 15-date tour. Dubbed Leaks, Covers and Mixtapes, the singer will launch her tour in Anaheim, Calif. on May 29. From there, she will travel to several other major cities including Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Boston and New York before concluding in Dallas, TX on June 26.

Last August, JoJo launched her Clover Music imprint at Interscope Records. “I’m reunited with [Aaron Bay-Schuck], my original A&R at Atlantic, who was instrumental in signing me there,” JoJo explained. “One of the hardest things I’ve had to do in my career was leave the Atlantic family. It was a decision I seriously struggled with, but felt I owed it to myself to fulfill one of my ultimate goals, which was ownership.”

Janelle Monáe Announces ‘Dirty Computer Tour’

Clear your cache. Janelle Monáe has announced dates for her Dirty Computer Tour with special guest St. Beauty.

The 27-city tour kicks off on June 11 in Seattle and will make stops across North America, including Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, New York and Tampa. The tour will conclude on August 4 in Monae’s hometown Atlanta.

Presales begin Wednesday, April 25 at 10 a.m. local time. Every online ticket purchase includes a digital copy of Monáe’s new album, Dirty Computer, which releases this Friday, April 27. Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Wednesday, May 2 at LiveNation.com.

Monáe also released a brand new music video today for her previously released single “I Like That.” The song is the follow-up to “Make Me Feel,” “Django Jane” and “PYNK.”
