While promoting her sophomore album “The Electric Lady” on Shade 45’s Sway In The Morning, Janelle Monáe’s lifestyle choice came into question. She keeps it cute without answering the question —meaning either you like me for my music or you don’t.
“There’s nothing wrong with being bisexual, there’s nothing wrong with being lesbian or gay,” said Monáe. “I am an advocate. I have friends who are in same-sex relationships and I think love has no sexual orientation. Love has no religious belief and love is the purest and most important thing we can possess for ourselves and for others.”
Along with sharing a piece of her life, she discussed her encounter with Prince, calling him a “mentor” but still a “mysterious” yet “funny person.”
She also dished on the meaning behind the title “The Electric Lady” and why she wanted to explore diversity with the album, her career-changing moment and much more.
