In October, our theme for Throwback Thursday was duets of 80’s and 90’s. With November being filled with movie releases (“The Best Man Holiday” and “Black Nativity”) we our capturing the sounds of songs from movie soundtracks with R&B artists.
This week’s Throwback Thursday is “Love Shoulda Brought You Home” by Toni Braxton. Penned by Babyface, the song hailed from 1992’s “Bommerang” starring Eddie Murphy and Robin Givens. The song also served as Braxton’s first solo single for her self-titled debut album.
The title of the record served as the infamous tagline from actress Halle Berry who confronts Murphy for spending the night with another woman – “Love should’ve brought your ass home last night.”
“Love Should Brought You Home” help launch Braxton’s career as it peaked at No.33 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and at No.4 the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Fun fact: Did you know the song was initial for R&B songstress Anita Baker? However, due to pregnancy Baker was focused to decline.
