After winning Best Independent R&B/Soul Performance for “Never Should Have” at the 2013 Soul Train Awards, Ashanti seems to feel musically driven again as she makes a promotional stop to Hot 97’s Morning Show on Monday.
The CEO of Written Entertainment addressed the elephant in the room, which is her much-delayed fifth studio album “Braveheart.” Ashanti says she’s “so excited” about the forthcoming project.
“I’m just so confident from top to bottom,” said the “Concrete Rose” diva. “It [album] tells a story and it’s true Ashanti – it feels like me. ”
She also talked about a record on album called “Scars” which she calls a “deep record.” The “Army Wives” starlet even hinted the song could be have something to do with the emotional scars she endured after the split with long-time boyfriend Nelly.
Speaking of Nelly, the 33-year old singer/songwriter dished on why she won’t be sending him a Christmas gift this year.
“I have to do me,” said Ashanti. “There are things that were said and things that were done that probably shouldn’t have been said or done but they have been.”
