Meanwhile, R&B/pop newcomers like Rihanna, Chris Brown, Trey Songz and Keyshia Cole were being introduced to music listeners with the release of their debut albums.
It was also the year that digital music really began impacting the music industry. On Feb. 12, 2005, Billboard officially began counting digital download sales toward chart positions.
