Aretha Franklin’s concept album is coming sooner than expected.
According to a rep for Clive Davis, the Queen of Soul will cap off the month with the release of her untitled album. The forthcoming project is almost complete and is set to arrive on Sept. 30, according to a Showbiz 411 report.
Franklin chooses her rendition of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” as the album’s lead single. On the eve of the album’s release, she will perform the song on the “Late Show With David Letterman.”
The album is expected to feature production from Babyface and Andre 3000. Clive Davis serves as the album’s executive producer.
“It’s just re-working some things that were very, very good and certainly chartworthy and sold a lot of records,” Franklin said. “They’re records that, musically, I respected and that I liked a lot and that I would love to have one go-’round with. I aspire for musical excellence. I have very high standards where music is concerned, and I’m looking for something I haven’t done, something that you haven’t heard and something just absolutely smashing.”
