Frank Ocean has recently been one of the most talked about and searched about artist amongst the internet within the last week for good reason. Besides his great writing capabilities and catchy melodies, Ocean has worked with some major musicians throughout the industry such as Beyoncé, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Jay-Z, and many more.
By the way, he recently confessed how his last EP “Nostalgia Ultra,” which was released on February 18, 2011, was allegedly inspired by his last serious romantic relationship with another man.
Now that Ocean is liberated to fully express himself without any regrets, he has done so on his first LP release entitled “Channel Orange” which was released on July 10, 2012 via iTunes. The seventeen track album literally tells the stories of how someone needs love to function, forbidden love due to society values, reality that you cannot put a gender on who you love, drug addiction, admiration of a strong woman, and much more.
The stands out tracks from the album are “Forrest Gump,” “Bad Religion,” “Pyramids,” “Pink Matter,” and “Thinkin Bout You.”
“Forrest Gump” tells the story of how someone can support someone they care for yet is afraid to pursue it further than a platonic relationship.
“Bad Religion” tells the tale of loving someone who doesn’t love you the same. “Pyramids” admire a strong woman who happens to work at a strip club
“Pink Matter” expresses how pleasure can come and go in various forms even as simply from fruit that is treasured and missed.
“Thinkin Bout You,” which was released in May 2012, explores the feelings of heartbreak and regret.
