Legendary singer Anita Baker is back. The “Sweet Love” singer just released her cover to Tyrese’s 1999 hit song “Lately.” The song serves as the lead single from Baker’s forthcoming album, “Only Forever,” which will release on October 23 via Blue Note Records.
“[‘Lately’ is] one of the first songs we cut, analog, in Nashville,” Baker tells The Boombox. “I brought in a live rhythm section. I brought it to L.A., and I called [Tyrese] into the studio and I played it for him; he had no idea. And he lost it, of course. He was like, ‘I know who has got to produce this!’ I’m like, ‘I already know, I got Harvey Mason, Jr., on tap.’”
“Only Forever” will be Baker’s first album released in seven years. It’s definitely an exciting moment in music.
