As we reported months ago, there will be a posthumous Teena Marie album released on Jan. 15, 2013 titled Beautiful. At the time of her death in December 2010, Marie was working on her 14th studio album, which would be released via Universal Music Enterprises.
Thanks to Marie’s daughter Alia Rose, who took the initiative to have the album completed, it will now be available for the world at the top of the New Year.
“If you listen to the lyrics, it’s almost as if she was making that transition to the spiritual world as the record was being made, which is incredible,” says Rose. “It’s like we’re going on this journey with her.”
Rose also joins her mother on three tracks on the album: “Rare Breed,” “Sweet Tooth,” and “Give Me Your Love.” The lead single from Beautiful is titled “Luv Letter,” which was recently sent to radio.
