Avant has delivered his seventh studio album Face The Music via Capitol/EMI distributed independent label Mo-B Entertainment. The 14 track album has arrived in stores just in time for Valentine’s Day.
In a recent interview with Avant, the crooner told us what his fans could expect on this album: “Real music, man. I’ve got some great up-tempo music. I’ve got some great mid-tempo. I’ve got some great ballads. It’s apart of your life in that record. You might have some issues going on within yourself. It’s not all sad music. As you can see, “You and I” is a beautiful love ballad. It’s a lot of different elements of the music that might help you through your situation or help further your situation..”
Avant gives his fans a little bit of everything on this album: songs that’ll make you feel good, songs to add on your lovemaking playlist, songs that’ll make you dance, and songs that may make you appreciate your lover – or want one.
Face The Music features collaborations from Keke Wyatt, rapper Kajun, and singer K’Lyn.
“Toast to Love” – On this feel good track, Avant croons about finally finding love and wants to cherish his moment. It’s certainly a song you can two step to with your lover. “Never thought I would be the one to ever have love come my way.”
“80 in a 30” – Avant slightly ups the tempo in his catchy tune “80 in a 30” featuring Kajun and K’lyn. The bass heavy track talks about a dude rushing to see his lover just to spend time with her.
“You & I (Ft. Keke Wyatt)”– With assistance from Keke Wyatt, Avant expresses how much he loves being in love with his girl. “You & I” is the lead single off the album.
“More” – Avant sings about wanting “More” from his love interest after having a great love making session. The sex is so good, it has Avant thinking about their first encounter.
“Excited” – On the snap beat track, Avant sweet talks a chick in the club by telling her all the reasons why he’s the one. He offers her a drink of Tequila and lime juice and tells her “I’ll give you something to look forward to.”
“Don’t Know How” – Avant admits that he’s not the perfect guy in “Don’t Know How.” On the heartfelt track, Avant explains that he really wants to love a woman but he doesn’t know how.
“Nobody’s Business” – Ideally, a relationship is between you and your partner, not the whole world. Avant gets straightforward over this two-step beat, telling his lover that although their relationship isn’t perfect, it’s still nobody’s business. In fact, he says “tell your friends to keep it moving.” Oop!
“Best Friends” – Avant kills the notion that a male and a female can be friends without any ‘funny business.’ He receives a text from his best friend (who’s a female) to basically have sex. Excited as he is, Avant contemplates making the move. “I was told something like this would happen when you make the opposite your best friend.”
“Like You” – There’s nothing like finding that one person who is special in your life. On this track, Avant admits that out of all of the women he’s dated, there’s just no one like her.
“When It’s Over” – We all want love, and so does Avant. On this track, he shows vulnerability by wanting reassurance from his lover that she will be there for him even after he’s out of the spotlight. “Is the love we share sincere? Can I wipe away my fear?” he asks. In other words, Avant isn’t looking for a gold digger, he’s looking for a woman to love him for who he is as a person.
“No” – Avant experiments with some pop influenced sounds on “No.” On the upbeat track, Avant basically answers his rhetorical question about whether or not he could live without his lover. And the answer is, you guessed it, no!
“Gratitude” – Avant offers another happy track on the album. On this jazzy track, the crooner shows his love and appreciation to his love interest. It’s definitely a romantic track that could be played on Valentine’s Day. “Girl I never want this to end / Gratitude I feel within / So sexy, sophisticated / And to me you’re so amazing.”
“Your Face” – Sometimes your face says it all and that’s the message behind this song. On the sensual track, Avant knows he’s doing a good job pleasing his woman in bed by her facial expressions. “You let me know it’s going down by the look on your face/ It feels good when I’m all up in it.”
“Human” – People often forget that celebrities are human beings, too. On this honest track, Avant reminds us that he’s human and he does the same things we do: “I talk, I text / I surf the net / And I love having good sex.”
Face The Music may not be Avant’s best work, but it’s certainly a solid effort from the R&B star. In fact, I commend Avant for putting out quality music that could be listened to ten years from now.
