As Jhené Aiko readies the release of her “Sail Out’ EP and tours with Drake on his “Would You Like a Your” she squeezes some promotion in to her schedule. During her time in Washington, D.C., she spoke with Elliott Wilson of RapRadar on his latest episode of “The Truth.”
In the short clip, the Los Angeles native discussed her recent collaboration on Drake’s “Nothing Was The Same” album on a track called “From Time.” She said when she heard the instrumental, she fell in love instantly.
“I was like yes,” said an excited Aiko. “Let me take this home and write to it.”
However, the finished version wasn’t her initial lyrics. In fact, she had the first version for over a month until she took herself out the equation of the lyrics and freestyled it in the booth.
“It was too personal for my project,” she said. “I gave it one more shot and sort of freestyled my whole hook and my verse.”
Further in the interview, Aiko talked about working with Childish Gambino on “Bed Peace” along with her new EP “Sail Out” which she says has a little more “hip-hop” vibe.
