TV One announced nominations for the 45th annual NAACP Image Award on Wednesday (Jan. 8) and John Legend, Robin Thicke, Janelle Monáe and Alicia Keys lead the pack with four nominations. Legend’s and Thicke’s nominations both include Outstanding Male Artist and Outstanding Song. Nominations snagged by Keys and Monáe consist of Outstanding Music Video and Outstanding Female Artist.
Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake follow suit with three nominations while Mary J.Blige and India.Arie earn two nods. Newcomers K. Michelle, RaVaughn, Ariana Grande and Candice Glover score Outstanding New Artist nominations.
Surprisingly Tamar Braxton and Fantasia were excluded from the list of nominations. The NAACP members who voted apparently didn’t listen to the radio last year. Both R&B artists had songs dominate the airwaves and countless Billboard charts for most of 2013 and still are atop the charts.
The NAACP Image Awards will celebrate the excellence of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film on Saturday, February 22 on TV One at 9 p.m. EST.
