Free at last. Underrated singer JoJo has finally been released from Blackground Records and has signed a new deal with Atlantic Records, The LA Times reports.
After releasing her successful sophomore album, “The High Road,” things seemed to go downhill. JoJo recorded her third album but it never saw the light of day due to legal troubles with Blackground.
Since then, JoJo has fought to be released from the label because she was unable to issue new music commercially. Last year, JoJo filed a lawsuit against Blackground to be released from the label and its imprint Da Family Records.
In the suit, JoJo claimed that Blackground/Da Family Records had been holding her hostage for over seven years. In addition, the labels failed to release her third studio effort as well as failed to pay the parties involved with creating the project.
JoJo’s fans certainly weren’t in favor of how she was being treated and launched a Twitter campaign last summer called #FreeJoJo.
Now that all the drama is behind her, JoJo is looking forward. She just signed a record deal with Atlantic Records in December and is most likely working on new material.
JoJo hinted that she was free from her label on Dec. 23, 2013, when she posted the definition of freedom on her Instagram.
