R&B veteran Usher and his New Look nonprofit organization are launching a cutting-edge digital education course for high school students called “Music Industry Leadership 101.”
Usher is doing more than making music these days. Founded by Usher in 1999, New Look develops global youth leaders through access, awareness and empowerment. MIL 101 will expose students to over 30 careers in the music and entertainment industries while providing them with guidance to be successful in their career paths. Mentoring is nothing new for the seasoned singer.
“Over the past 15 years New Look has worked to instill in our youth leaders the importance of receiving an education,” says the 35-year-old singer. “Our goal in developing Music Industry 101 is to give students access to one of the most relevant and engaging online courses today and motivate them to stay in school.”
MIL 101 will combine e-learning with face-to-face instruction. The program will reach more than 2,000 students in areas in Georgia, North Carolina and Florida. Students will be able to learn real-life experiences first hand by leading industry experts. Students will learn an understanding of the industry, branding, importance of marketing, leadership and teamwork.
