LeToya Luckett’s acting resume continues to evolve. The former Destiny’s Child member will portray music legend Dionne Warwick in an upcoming biopic, Dionne. Warwick announced the news during a press conference at The Cannes Film Festival.
“She is perfect and she has exactly the right look,” Warwick said about Luckett portraying her. “She will bring out what is needed for this part.”
Not only will Luckett portray Warwick but she will also perform her songs for the film’s soundtrack.
Other castings announced were Danny Glover as Warwick’s father; Olympia Dukakis as Warwick’s mentor Marlene Dietrich; and Lady Gaga as English singer Cilla Black, who Warwick referred to as her “nemesis.”
Warwick also said her team is in talks with Mario Van Peebles (New Jack City) to direct the film.
Dionne will be based on Warwick’s 2010 autobiography My Life as I See It. It will cover her music career from 1962 through 1968. Production for the film is set to begin in October.
