Jazmine Sullivan has been under the radar since topping the charts with her Grammy-nominated album, Reality Show. The passionate singer returns in a thrilling way with support from “Insecure” creator Issa Rae and her live event series, pieces.
Dressed in a decorative two-piece suit and rocking a blonde bob, Sullivan opens her intimate concert with backstory on the creation of her last album. She admitted she completed the album while living at home with her parents after she thought she was ready to be an adult.
Before taking us on a soulful journey with “Let It Burn,” she revealed how not being an ideal girlfriend in the past inspired the first line of the slow jam. She also revealed how she almost didn’t finish the song.
Sullivan closed her set with the title track from the season two soundtrack of Rae’s HBO comedy-drama. As a fan of Rae’s work, she felt she had to be a part of her movement.
