A refreshingly candid voice in R&B, emerging star Kenyon Dixon comes with the vibes on his latest EP Switch.
On the five-track EP, Dixon uses hints of jazz to take a more traditional approach to its production making for an organic-sounding record. This approach is prevalent on the fan-favorite track “Should’ve Been You.”
“Every single night when she’s layin’ across my bed / I feel so ashamed ‘cause you start running through my head / I know she would kill me if she knew the way I felt / a lot that I could say but I’ll just keep it to myself,” Dixon croons as the track opens.
“This project for me was LITERALLY a “Switch,” Dixon expressed in an Instagram post shortly after the EP’s release. “A change in how I even approached music. I just wanted to give y’all something fresh but also representative of the progress I’ve made as a creative (and person). I’m inspired by a lot of different things/music and I wanted to find a way to showcase that a little more. So thank y’all for being open.”
Switch features appearances from V. Bozeman and Aaron Cole, and it is the Los Angeles native’s first release of the new year following his EP, R&B Kenny, release back in 2019.
