Recording Academy Sets New Date for 2021 Grammy Awards

Music’s Biggest Night will no longer happen later this month. The Recording Academy has announced that it has postponed the 63rd Grammy Awards due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles, where it usually takes place. The show is now scheduled to air on Sunday, March 14 at 8 p.m. ET.

The Academy issued a statement about its decision to reschedule the prestigious event, which will be hosted by comedian and talk show host Trevor Noah.

“After thoughtful conversations with health experts, our host and artists scheduled to appear, we are rescheduling the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards® to be broadcast Sunday, March 14, 2021. The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have all led us to conclude that postponing our show was the right thing to do,” they stated.

“Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show. We want to thank all of the talented artists, the staff, our vendors and especially this year’s nominees for their understanding, patience and willingness to work with us as we navigate these unprecedented times.”

Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer issued a warning to the community about the rising cases in the city. “Everyone should keep in mind that community transmission rates are so high that you run the risk of an exposure whenever you leave your home,” she said. “Assume that this deadly invisible virus is everywhere, looking for a willing host.”
