The 2021 BET Awards nominations are in. Chris Brown and Chloe x Halle picked up four nominations each, including Best Group and Video of the Year.
Silk Sonic, the exciting new duo comprised of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, comes in second place with three nominations. Outside of their moniker, both superstars earned one nomination apiece.
Jazmine Sullivan is vying for two awards, including Album of the Year (Heaux Tales) and Best Female R&B/Pop Artist. The Weeknd is in the same boat, earning a nod in the former category for After Hours and another for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist.
First-time nominees include Brandy, Tank and Givēon. The R&B General previously earned a nod for Best Group (TGT) in 2014, but this marks his first solo nod.
While last year’s BET Awards did not include a live audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s ceremony will house vaccinated individuals — who can register now — inside the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
“We are back and excited to bring culture’s biggest night, the 2021 ‘BET Awards,’ safely back to Los Angeles to celebrate this year’s incredible roster of nominees. We broke ground as one of the first official award shows to move forward during the global pandemic and we are ready to take our pioneer status to the next level with the return of an audience to celebrate the best and brightest creative minds in the entertainment industry,” shared Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy in an official statement.
The 2021 BET Awards will air live on Sunday, June 27, at 8 p.m. EST. It also can be viewed internationally on BET Africa, BET Africa, MTV Brazil, MTV UK, and BET France. UK viewers can catch the ceremony on My5 and Sky On-Demand starting June 29.
