After signing with LVRN last October, Maryland native Alex Vaughn makes her official introduction with her debut single “Mirage.”
On the pensive track, Vaughn comes to her senses after realizing the man she has been with was never good for her. Instead, she was falling in love with a fantasy.
“Damn near perfect / Beautiful you are / Or is it just a mirage? / You’ve got me in the desert dry / But seeing waterfalls / Someone save me / I’m on the verge of falling,” Vaughn sings on the reflective tune. She later tells herself, “Stop hallucinating over lame ass niggas.”
In a lengthy Instagram post, Vaughn shared the history behind “Mirage,” which she wrote in 2019.
“I was getting so caught up into this toxic situationship & didn’t even realize that I was lost in the IDEA of that person rather than who they actually WERE, & I was the only one suffering. Imma b honest I was down BAD, but knew I was the only person who could truly call me out, and had to do it before it got too far,” she wrote.
“This song was a voice memo & meant for my ears only. A year later, in a HUMID jam session in a DC attic, it was suggested by @djmoney to bring the song out of hiding. In no time at all, that voice memo was elevated into an entire experience.”
Vaughn also mentioned that “Mirage” is the song that helped her get a deal with LVRN/Interscope Records. “It’s wild to know that my most vulnerable moments [are] what really make people really connect. [To be honest], I would’ve never called this one but I’m so happy we’re here. Don’t hoard your ideas! Share them [with] the world!”

Speaking of performances, Vaughn is set to take the stage at the Broccoli City Festival on Sunday, May 8, in Washington, D.C. Her LVRN labelmate Summer Walker is co-headlining the two-day festival with Ari Lennox.
