Emerging singer Kwaku Asante has released a video for his current single “Rhodes,” co-directed by Dean Dumare.
The intimate visual finds Asante and his love interest (played by Kandi J) undoubtedly smitten with each other. They’re seen doting over one another in various places in London, from exploring nature to commuting by train.
The sweetest moments together are at home, where they are their most comfortable. He takes photos of her in the bathroom while she brushes her teeth.
On “Rhodes,” produced by HYLNU, an unhappy Asante shoots down the notion that they’re plenty of fish in the sea, considering he’s stuck on one that is no longer on his hook. Uncertain how this particular person feels about him or how things ended, he’s still willing to put his best foot forward and shoot his shot again.
“I hope you say what I want to hear, babe / Don’t burst my bubble,” Asante warmly sings over a beautifully earthy track.
“Rhodes” is the first new song from Asante this year. It follows his pair of 2021 EPs, Blue Solstice: Volume 1, and Ode, which both preceded his sold-out, headlining show at London’s Jazz Cafe in November 2021. Asante is set to release his next EP, Wanderlust, soon.
On Nov. 28, Asante will headline Village Underground in London. Tickets are available now.
