Emerging R&B singer Sy’Rai has returned with her new single “Not About You.”
On the piano ballad, underscored by a delicate bass, Sy’Rai tells a former lover why she moved on and how it was the best decision for her.
“Hear me when I say I loved you / More than everything / Did everything for ya / Put you before my needs / I needed to leave ya to find what I was worth / Had to be with someone else,” she sings in the first verse.
In verse two, Sy’Rai describes how her new lover is a suitable match for her. “And he loves me / He’s my weakness / And with him, I can be the real me.”

Sy’Rai co-wrote “Not About You” with Anaya Strong and the song’s producers Todd Bergman, Santiago Gonzalez, and Sugi Dakks.
Sy’Rai’s mother — R&B icon Brandy — went to Instagram to share a sweet message about the song. “#NotAboutYou Out Now!!! @syraismith what a beautiful song this is. Singing from a vulnerable and truthful place. So proud of you,” Brandy wrote.
“Not About You” is the follow-up to Sy’Rai’s debut single, “On My Own,” released in 2023.
Both songs are expected to appear on the budding vocalist’s debut EP. The upcoming project is executive and vocally produced by Brandy.
