Rising soul singer Fana Hues is back with her third album, Moth, via Bright Antenna Records.
The 13-track set was preceded by the heartfelt lead single “Paper Tigers” and the flirtatious “Rental.”
Regarding the former track, Hues explained, “Paper tigers are all bluster and no muster. I’m the opposite. I’m big on displaying love, yes, but I actually possess the love I’m showcasing. This song is about the discovery of a fresh love that’s so good, you have to scream about it.”
As for the latter, she notes, “Rental’ is a song that explores how giving into a guilty pleasure can be a freeing necessity.”
On Moths, Hues embarks on a soul-enriching journey, metaphorically guided by light. “Moths fly through darkness constantly searching for light even at the risk of harm. I’m always en route on a journey to find the reason for a feeling in its purest form, even if it hurts,” she explains.
Among the album’s highlights is “Sweet Light,” which is also the latest focus track. “Don’t shy away again / Take this moment while it’s offered / Don’t run from temptation / Babe I’m never just an option,” she sings over an airy production.
“‘Sweet Like’ is like forbidden fruit. It can have the best reward or the most devastating of consequences, but the chase of it draws me in every time,” Hues explains to Rated R&B.
Moth is the follow-up to Hues’ 2022 album, flora + fana. Before that, in 2020, she released her debut album, Hues.
The Pasadena, California, native will support her latest body of work while on Lucky Daye’s Algorithm Tour. The summer tour kicks off July 11 in San Fransisco, making stops in St. Louis, Nashville, Toronto, New Orleans, Atlanta, and more. The tour concludes Aug. 28 in Los Angeles.
