R&B girl group PsiRyn (pronounced “siren”) has scored their first No. 1 hit. Their debut single, “Sober,” climbs from No. 2 to No. 1 on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart (dated Feb. 15).
The song, which features writing and production by Kandi Burruss, who formed the group, bumps Coco Jones‘ “Here We Go (Uh Oh)” to No. 2 after a seven-nonconsecutive week lead.
PsiRyn’s new hit marks the first No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay by an R&B group since The Isley Brothers topped the chart for five weeks in September 2022 with “Make Me Say It Again Girl” featuring Beyoncé. Genre-bending group Phony Ppl came close in March 2023, peaking at No. 2 with “Nowhere But Up.”
It’s also worth noting PsiRyn is the first all-female group or duo to reach No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart in nearly 23 years, according to Billboard. Per the publication, Floetry was the last to rule the chart in 2003 with their breakout hit “Say Yes,” which spent seven weeks atop the chart.
PsiRyn isn’t the only group charting on the Adult R&B Airplay chart. British trio FLO‘s latest radio single “On & On” is No. 21 in its second week on the chart. Meanwhile, OMG Girlz’s “Motion” is No. 30 in its third week. Sentury is holding it down for the male R&B groups with “Only Human” at No. 23.
Elsewhere on Billboard, “Sober” is in its peak position at No. 18 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
At R&B radio, monitored by Mediabase, “Sober” holds the No. 1 spot with 2,013 spins this week, reaching an audience of 7.74 million.

“Sober” was released July 26, 2024, via Kandi Koated Entertainment. The track was produced by Jonathan “Jay-O” Henry, Liby Vongmanee and Burruss, who also co-wrote it with Natalie Orfilia and Stephen Parks.
After the song entered the top 5 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart in December 2024, Burruss stated, “I am so proud of PsiRyn and their achievement with ‘Sober.’ The support from radio programmers and listeners has been incredible. We’re aiming for the girls to reach number one at the top of the year and are thankful for the enthusiasm and support they’ve received so far.”
Burruss continued, “With ‘Sober’ resonating strongly with audiences and radio stations nationwide, PsiRyn is poised for even greater success. Stay tuned for more updates as this talented group continues to make waves in the music industry.”
PsiRyn consists of members Jada Denise, Anaya Chayenne, and Victoria McQueen. Burruss introduced the group via social media in 2023. They started to generate buzz with their viral covers of R&B classics like Anita Baker’s “Sweet Love.”
The emerging group joined Burruss on the road for Xscape and SWV’s The Queens of R&B Tour in summer 2024.
With “Sober” hitting No. 1 on Billboard, perhaps that will lead to a debut project sometime soon.
